The draft is a very complicated process and something that is rather controversial. But now some people are starting to say that women should also be required to register for Selective Services. Anna Quindlen, the author of the article "Uncle Sam and Aunt Samantha , is on the side of women becoming apart of the draft. Quindlen argues that women should be required to sign up while I agree that gender equality and fairness are valid points, I do not agree that women should be required to register for the Selective Service. Instead I argue that women should be required to help in other ways. Our draft has been around for awhile but we have only used it once. When the draft was created women definitely didn't have the equality that women have today. So since women and men are equal now a lot of people are finding it unfair that men are still the only ones who have to register for the draft. This point makes sense considering that women have wanted equal rights but suddenly don't when war comes into the picture. Quindlen states, " ¦it makes a mockery not only of the standards of this household but of the standards of this nation ¦  (Quindlen) Though this is a great point, America stands for equal rights and freedom but yet that doesn't apply when it comes to the draft. There are two arguments here, which means there are reasons why people think women should and why they shouldn't; and that's what I am trying to figure out. In the past men have always been the dominant gender, while that has changed it also hasn't in some aspects. Everyone says and thinks we are equal but are we? Men still make more money then women when they both have the exact same job. Women are also still referred to as the weaker sex and in some ways we are.
