Part one: The observation Plan
Aim
The main aim of this task is to explore the possible social and psychological factors that influence the pattern of eating habits among first year students; within a North West university.
Method
A complete (full) participant observation will be conducted on an opportunity sample, which is a class of first year university students; studying forensic science and applied criminology. The same class members will be observed daily; for one week; at lunch time (between 12 and 1). Notes will be taken and self-administered charts will be completed regarding eating habits and psychosocial and environmental factors. The data collected will be written up at a later date.
The aims of this task will be explained to the participants orally and in written form. They will be informed that any information obtained from this observation will remain confidential and will not affect them or their studies in any way.
