Christopher Scott Kyle was a career marine. He was a Navy Seal sniper who was stationed in Iraq on four separate tours of duty. During these active duties, Kyle had claimed over 160 kills. Kyle had begun to have difficulties with his metal stability but was able to maintain control of himself and his behavior. ‘In August 2006, during one of Kyle’s tours another Navy Seal had been killed. Fellow Team 3 Charlie Platoon member Marc Lee, was killed in the line of duty’ (abcnews.com, 2015). Mr. Lee was the first Seal to be killed in Iraq. Christopher Kyle was reported to be ‘inconsolable’ according to ABC News (2015). Upon the death of his marine brother, Mr. Kyle’s behavior had begun to change. ‘He started to pull away from his family, and to drink heavily’ (D-Magazine, 2013). In 2009, Kyle’s wife had given him an ultimatum that ended his career in the marine’s. ‘He was honorably discharged from the marines in 2009’ (D-Magazine, 2013). Kyle’s wife became concerned with her husband and his mental well-being. ‘She had reported a significant decrease in normal daily activities: working out for example’ (abcnews.com, 2015), she also stated that he did not want to leave the house anymore and stopped making his usual jokes’. Mr. Kyle had continued to write and call other Seal members, and begun spending more time with his family. ‘It has been noted that Mr. Kyle also begun talking to a counselor’ (abcnews.com, 2015).
Over time, Kyle had started working out again and had taken a more active role as father and husband. ‘He started feeling better and began to help other vets deal with their difficulties, mental and physical’ (D-Magazine, 2013). This is how Mr. Kyle met up with Mr. Eddie Ray Routh. ‘Rouths mother had met up with Mr. Kyle at his children’s school, where she was a teacher’ (abcnews.com, 2015).
